ABERDEENSHIRE SPORTS COUNCIL

Press Release
The Huntly Nordic Ski Club has just received a grant of £5000 from
Sportscotland through the Awards For All Lottery Grants scheme. The grant
was awarded for 15 pairs of skate roller skis, 28 pairs of skate skis, 32
pairs of ski poles and a digital camcorder. This is primarily for use by
the Huntly Junior Cross Country Development Squad and members of the Huntly
club who do not have access to this specialist equipment. The pisted trails of
the Clashindarroch Forest provide an ideal venue for the skate technique of
nordic skiing. The camcorder is a recognise tool for coaches and skiers to
analyse and improve their technique. Currently four of our juniors are
members of the British Junior Cross Country Ski Squad and one of our former
members skis with the senior ladies GB Biathlon Squad. The equipment will
be based at the Huntly Nordic & Outdoor Centre where it is intended that other educational groups will be able to take advantage of this kit.

Huntly Nordic Ski Club is a member of Snowsport Scotland, the governing
body of the skiing in Scotland. Our application was supported by Paddy Field,
Nordic Director for the British Ski and Snowboard Federation.
