Sport for People with a
Disability
This
directory details the opportunities for people with a
disability to take part in sport in Aberdeenshire. The
details are correct as of January 2003. However,
Aberdeenshire Disability Sport, a registered charity
working in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council, aims
to be continually adding to what is on offer.
All
enquiries and suggestions for new activities are always
very welcome.

Physically Disabled Swimming Club
Specifically for
people with physical disabilities. Meets every Tuesday.
Northern College, Hilton Place, Aberdeen. From 6.30pm to
8.00pm. Pool hoist available. Open to all ages and
abilities. Club sessions are run by Scottish Amateur
Swimming Association qualified coaches.

Doric Dolphins
Friday Club
Swimming club open to
people with a learning disability who are not at an
improved or advanced level. Opportunities for
competitive swimming locally, nationally and
internationally. The club have in the past produced
swimmers at Paralympic level. All coaches are qualified
under the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association. The
club meets on a Friday evening at Kincorth Swimming
Pool, Aberdeen, from 7.00pm - 8.00pm.

Special Olympics
Grampian Area
Set up in 1984
specifically for people with learning disability. Local
activities are Swimming, Basketball, Equestrian, Skiing,
Bowling (indoor, lawn, 10-pin) and Tennis. Participated
in UK games in Portsmouth in 1997.

T.A.G. (The
Adult Group)
A group for people
with learning disabilities in the Garioch area who
participate in a variety of sports and activities,
meeting at different locations throughout Aberdeen City
and Aberdeenshire. These are at different times and
durations, both during the evenings on weekdays and at
all times at weekends. The Group plan a programme of
activities, arrangements are then made by the organiser.
The Group is supported by Social Work Department and has
its own Management Committee who may be contacted for
more information.

in the Games Hall with a variety of sports on offer.
Every Monday and Wednesday, 1.30pm - 2.30pm there are
Trampoline sessions for the Harlaw Centre. The Training
Zone caters for people with any disability. Inductions
for the use of the Gym equipment are free of charge and
can be arranged on a personal basis. Wheelchair access,
